Weight So, the definition of the specific weight is basically, specific weight is gamma. Gamma is rho, which is the density, times g. g, you know this, this is acceleration due to gravity, right? Acceleration due to gravity. And this number is, you know, 9.81 meter per second square or 32.2 feet per second square, right? And the density that I'm looking over here is whatever the substance that I'm working with—that's the density of it. So then the question comes: why even bother with this, right? I can simply write this times that. Well, we keep seeing this multiplication everywhere in fluid mechanics, so it simply saves us time and space. So that's why we use it. What about the unit? Well, the unit is either Newton per meter cube in the SI, or it can be pound per feet cube in the British gravitational unit system. |
